Fauna and Flora

At Camping Les Rulières, we take care to maintain a pleasant, natural environment. Whether on the campsite grounds, beside our ponds or during your escapades in the Marais Poitevin and on the coast, nature is yours in all its purity.

Les Oiseaux du Bocage: Your holiday companions

The hedged farmland surrounding the campsite is a haven for many species, which you can see and hear as soon as you wake up.

Garden and bush regulars

  • The robin : Very curious, they will not hesitate to approach your accommodation.
  • Les Mésanges : Very present, we feed them in winter to ensure their return each year.
  • Cute Wren: Despite its tiny size, its powerful, melodious song will enchant your mornings.
  • The Common Myna : Discreet, it is often seen in bushes where it feeds its young.

Songs and migrations

As the seasons go by, other visitors join the concert:

The Nightingale: Hard to see but impossible to miss thanks to its legendary song at the start and end of the season.

The Goldfinch: It returns from Spain or the south of France in spring to colour our countryside.

The Tree Finch: A pretty partial migratory passerine whose song heralds fine weather.

But also: The Swift Warbler, the Black-capped Warbler and hordes of sparrows that populate the edges of our fishing ponds.

Birds of the marshes and coastline: a permanent spectacle

Move away from the campsite towards the Marais Poitevin or the coast and you'll discover an environment that is particularly rich in migratory species.

Around wetlands

  • Herons: The grey heron is the usual guest of our ponds. In the marshes, you may come across the discreet Purple Heron or the Cattle Egret, often perched among the cows.
  • White Stilt: This highly recognisable and assertive species is found in marshy areas.
  • The Crested Lapwing : Worried by the slightest movement, it makes its presence felt with its distinctive cry.

The Aiguillon Bay: An exceptional nature reserve

As you continue towards the Baie de l'Aiguillon, bring your binoculars. This is a major migratory stopover where you will observe :

On the beach: Hordes of Dunlin or Sanderlings invade our coasts to the delight of walkers.

Shorebirds: Curlews, Avocets, Little Egrets and Redshanks.
